Well my boys and girls its Butters here again just letting everyone know that this has been a perfect weekend so far. Normally I would stop there…but today I have more!

Reflecting on the past year of glorious gaming time I wanted to mention one of my favorite games to date. Left 4 Dead. I really can’t tell you how many countless hours of zombie killing mayhem that was spent over the past several months with this game. I have always been a fan of the zombie genre (like my GF counterparts) and the idea of the Apocalypse (which I am preparing lube for as we speak).

Well this simple game simply shocked the hell out of me because of its simplicity and how much fun a simple game could be, simply speaking. This surely brings me back to the days of Mario Bros (except with zombies and the Apocalypse and without short cut glistening hairy Italian plumbers…Mmmm, and weird creatures from another land), but anyhow I truly love this game because of the fun factor and the replay value of this game. And the simplicity.

The cool thing (and I say that because everything above was cool…but not as cool as what I’m about to tell you) about this game is it’s addition to the idea of the special zombie.

In the game there are 5 special zombie that are a lovely addition to the beautiful carnage of the game. Well, I would like to explain them in short so here we go… The hunter is probably one of my favorite because he literally is modeled after a frog in human form.

He can jump several yards without any trouble and can bounce on a survivor and not let go until that person get helped.

The smoker is (and has) an interesting feature: she usually stays on top of buildings and sits and waits until a person gets under her and she will use her long tongue to strangle the survivor.

The boomer is a very useful zombie and he is down right funny (heh heh). The noise will literally make you laugh out loud but his purpose is to barf on the survivors. By doing this he is putting a pheromone in the air that will attract the horde (the zombies as a whole). He is by far the easiest to hear because of the barf like sounds he is making. Here are some cute boomers shooting their pheromones off. Watch out for that barf flying!

The tank is probably the mixture of Mr. Hyde and the Hulk

but the name says it all. It is not one to be trifled with and he will fuck up your world if you are not trifled. He only spawns in random parts of the levels, but I have seen 3 tanks in one map. holy shit it sucked. so did the 3 tanks.

Finally, we move on to my favorite and the most feared opponent in video game history…and that is the witch. She is unique because she is the only zombie that will not attack if she is not bothered (which means if you don’t bother her, she won’t attack you!)

However, the game randomly places her on the map every time a player plays a character created for the game. The thing that is so damn scary…is the fact of the matter is that a flashlight flashing, shooting (guns or no guns), or even just getting close enough to kiss will automatically send a survivor to the ground writhing in scaredness and literally beat the shit out of the survivor with her mean looking claws, and her determined wit.

Usually it takes the witch a third of the time to kill the survivor than the rest of the other infected. The main thing that is freaky is she is a little girl that is always crying and soon as she is alerted she screech in little girl fury hmmmm…villiage people of the damned much???

Well, the survivors themselves are just 5 random people that just randomly started working together to survive. Those survivors are Francis, Bill, Mark, Louis, and my favorite Zoey (do you know any of them?). All have special perks for using certain guns in the game. Such as Zoey is meant to use the ever useful pistols and the ever usless hunting rifle. Bill is good with the never useless assualt rifle. Louis is good with the useless ever uzi. Francis is good with both of the ever useless but never useful shotguns.

Mark is good with the light saber.

The cool thing about this game is the fact that you can play as the special infected (with the exception of the witch) in the popular versus mode. The game is a four on four match were you go through two of the four campaigns in the game and both teams will play both sides until the campaign is done.

The single campaign and the co-op campaign are very fun as well. There are four different campaigns to choose from No Mercy, Blood Harvest, Dead Air, and Death Toll. The 5 difficulties in which the game can be played make a heavy factor on success…obviously!

Such as easy the zombies take quite literally for ever to kill a survivor. However, such as expert one zombie from the horde can kill a survivor in 5 wacks. Scary yes? no? I would tell you more but you will just have to play the game and reveal the secrets.

This game is on Xbox 360 and on the PC. This game is really good and should be a video game that all can enjoy including you. I highly recomend it.

Next time…we’ll talk about STAR WARS ZOMBIES! SUPER COOL!

Since the Playstation 2 hit the world, my video game time on my PC has just pretty much plummeted. But I still love to don my Terrain Republic uniform and go kick some ass on Planetside from time to time. Seriously folks, if you still have not played Planetside you are missing out on one of the GREATEST MMP ever to be created.

But back on track. The America’s Army game started about 6 years ago with its first release. Now if you have never played this game you are missing out and here’s why. First it is FREE! Yup, it is 100% free. Second it was developed by the Army for a training experience for their troops and then they decided to release it to the public so you should feel privileged that the Army is sharing it with you. And finally it is a pretty damn good game.

I got the full scoop on the upcoming game from military.com and I will share the full article below. I normally don’t do this, but there is a lot of good content in the article, so I wanted to share the whole thing.

Here it is in its entirety:

SILVER SPRING, Md. – Six years after the U.S. Army revolutionized military action games with the launch of the free personal computer game America’s Army, the Army has announced the upcoming release of America’s Army 3.

America’s Army is the only free action game that delivers an authentic Army experience, officials said, by reflecting the training, technology, actions and career advancement of a Soldier within a unique exciting game experience.

AA3, which will be rated T for Teen by the Entertainment Software Rating Board, will be released later this year. As with previous versions of America’s Army, officials said AA3 will be constantly updated to include new features and missions and to highlight new technologies being incorporated in today’s Army.

Using the state-of-the-art Unreal Engine 3, America’s Army game developers brought the most popular trademark gameplay features from the previous versions to AA3. Highlights include authentic weapons and technologies, realistic training and exciting gameplay missions.

More detailed interaction

AA3 will provide players new insights into the Army and Soldiering while making the game easier to play, easier to install and easier to download, according to its producers

“In AA3 we’ve taken all of the best features in AA2, incorporated feedback from the AA community and added the latest technology to develop a high-tech game that can be customized by the player to create a much more detailed interactive experience,” said Michael Bode, executive producer of the America’s Army game. “One of our key design philosophies is to make the game easily accessible to a new player, while at the same time keeping a deeper layer of complexity for the more advanced players to discover and take advantage of.”

AA3 highlights different aspects of the Army from Army Values and the Warrior Ethos to Army career opportunities and lifestyles both on and off duty. Through their in-game characters, AA3 players will be able to experience the way Soldiers train, live, and advance in the Army. AA3 players will also experience different types of technologies and equipment used by the Army’s high-tech Soldier.

Values integral to ROE

Players are bound by Rules of Engagement, or ROE, and gain experience as they navigate challenges in team-based, multiplayer, force-on-force operations. In the game, as in the Army, accomplishing missions requires teamwork and adherence to the seven Army Core Values. In the game, a player’s actions and demonstrated Army values will have consequences that are integral to success in gameplay and will affect a player’s career progression.

“With AA3, we’re taking military gaming to an all new level where every detail counts,” said Col. Casey Wardynski, originator and director of the America’s Army game project. “We want our America’s Army 3 players to have a greater understanding of the Army and its values. Our Soldiers are aspirational figures and our players are able to virtually experience many aspects of a Soldier’s life from their training, to their missions, to the way the Army has influenced their lives.”

As with the previous America’s Army games, AA3′s authenticity is second-to-none, Wardynski said. The Army development team worked closely with subject-matter experts from across the Army to make sure that everything about the game is as realistic as possible.

Unreal Engine 3 delivers realism

AA3 has more authentic military elements including training, technology, weapons, and audio than any other military game. Built on Unreal Engine 3, AA3 delivers stunningly realistic environments, lighting effects, animations, and team-based experiences.

AA3 players will have persistent characters that they customize by embarking on career paths in which they advance by completing specialized training and accomplishing missions. The evolution of the player’s career follows the same progression as it would in the Army.

Players are rewarded at significant milestones, such as graduation from basic training or returning from a deployment, through pride moments — vignettes represented visually as an achievement screen, movie or a slide show. These pride moments transition the player from one state of training or character progression to another.

Initially, the core of the gameplay focuses on an Infantry Soldier (11B military occupational specialty). Players can select from a variety of roles that the 11B performs such as Rifleman, Automatic Rifleman, Designated Marksman and Grenadier.

New specialties coming

The first additional MOS players can explore is 68W Health Care Specialist (Combat Medic) which will be added this summer. Players who complete advanced individual training modules can take on new MOS roles that will affect gameplay. For example, by completing medic training, players will be able to treat minor and major injuries in single-player training missions and render advanced medical aid in multi-player missions.

In subsequent game releases, players who complete Combat Engineer training will be able to assist in mission pre-planning, such as emplacing an obstacle to impede the mobility of enemy forces.

Training is a key element in the AA3 game just as it is in the Army, the game producers say. The game offers a variety of new training levels that will give players an advantage. After completing basic training, players can go to advanced training to increase their in-game skill level and progress in their Army career.

Success in the game earns players the privilege of taking specialized training. This specialized training allows players to unlock new abilities and gear, and to customize the gear they carry as well as their equipment loadout.

As players advance, they will be able to ‘cross-train’ on many different MOSs available in today’s Army. Such players will be highly sought after – according to the game producers — due to the capabilities they bring to multi-player missions. Additionally, as a new feature, players will have the ability to join online games with limited capabilities using the “instant action” feature.

About America’s Army

The Army creates and distributes America’s Army so that young Americans can virtually explore Soldiering in the U.S. Army like Soldiers experience it – as individuals and as members of teams, the game producers said.

Through the game’s virtual experiences, young Americans can explore the Army from basic training at Fort Benning, Ga., and medic training at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, to operations in defense of freedom. Along the way, they can join elite Army units and experience the strength of Army teamwork, values and technology within an engaging environment.

The game has become an online phenomenon, consistently ranking among the most popular PC action games played online. The games are rated T for Teen and can be downloaded free from various partners listed on the www.americasarmy.com site. They are also distributed at local Army Recruiting stations, ROTC Detachments and Army events.

The Army launched the first version America’s Army in July of 2002, and has released major updates to the game every few months. These releases feature new technologies, missions, Army units and occupations. In keeping with the dynamic nature of Soldiering, the America’s Army game will continue to expand and will allow players to explore the Army of today, tomorrow and the future, officials said. They said America’s Army 3 will be an entirely new version of the game.

That’s the rumor kitties. The latest intel on the subject is that 3 developers of the Metroid Prime series have formed the new Armature studios in Austin, TX and they are dedicated to creating games for all three platforms with a publishing agreement through Electronic Arts. This undoubltedly will unlock many doors for the 3 who were formally tied exclusively to Nintendo.

Mark Pacini who now heads the new company said they are excited to finally be working with the other platforms, especially the powerful PS3 system. Under the new contract with EA they would not be able to create any new Metroid Prime games for the WII, but who cares, nobody wants to play Metroid on the fucking WII anyway. We all know that the WII is a kids console, NES went down that road when the Game Cube bombed. Now they market to overweight kids and seem to be doing pretty well at it. But the PS3 has always been geared up for adults, hence the price. The graphics, content and game play says it all.

No idea as to when we could expect a game title or screen shots, that is still all in the process, and the developers are very tight lipped as to what they are working on but be assured there WILL be a Metroid series coming to the PS3. Todd Keller, one of the 3, has already remarked “personally, I would love to work on another Metroid game. I have been in love with Metroid for years. We had a chance to recreate a game that was created way back when. That was awesome”.

And who hasn’t Mark. I popped my cherry while playing Samus. All of us die hard Metroid fans remember trying to find all 255 rockets, memorizing those long continue codes and trying to bomb our way up the impossible walls in the White World without using the Max. I played constant hours just roaming around, knowing where to get the wave and ice beams but trying not to use them. My love affair was renewed as many were with the release of Super Metroid. I actually still play both games along with a catalog of many other greats like Mike Tyson’s Punch Out, Kung Fu, Zelda, Ice Hockey and Dragon Warrior. But none of these hold a candle to the Metroid series.

In short they have to develope a new Metroid series, they simply have to.

To me there is nothing better than trivia. Trivial Pursuit is by far the best board game EVER invented. For those of you who disagree, your not smart enough to realize how stupid you really are. Anyway while perusing the local video game hut I saw this new game and wanted it, badly. So after whining incessantly for 45 minutes the purchase was made.

The game is pretty cool in design, you have 1-8 contestants for at home play and 1-4 in online mode. There are 5 different genres with a combined 5,000 plus questions. The graphics are good enough at max 780I and the animation comes in at a B plus. The online game play is a little slow and to no real end but to win points, for no use. If you could actually apply those points to something it would make it worth while. But the player generated questions option and the new question download packs do help round out this game.

After I dove into the game with some friends I had high expectations. When playing with friends at home there are five rounds of questions. After reaching the final round with 4,000 points more than any one else I thought I was the easy victor, I was wrong.

The final round of the game is simply stupid. Everyone is raised on a platform with the height based on your point tally. I figure this gives all of the stupid people an even playing field. As questions are asked the first player to buzz in correctly has their platform move up a notch, get it right anytime but first and you simply stay where you are, get it wrong and drop. I truly despise this setup. I am not what you would call politically correct, nor do I think we need an even playing field in anything. I think if you are better then you are better and you will probably win. If you suck then you will get your ass kicked.

The creativity of the interactive game play is suppose to make it more entertaining than just sitting there answering questions. I guess this is based on the theory that we all have such short attention spans now. But to me the stupid rounds like Short Fuse and Pie Fight are far to childish. And some people may think this is a child’s game but how much does a 10 year old know about 80′s music?

So the game is not a total disappointment but for people like me who have much higher demands when paying $60 for a game, this one has some serious short comings. My suggestion, wait until it is cheaper.

It was sometime at the end of 2007, as I was trolling the PS3 aisles of Best Buy that…

…you know, to be honest, I still go to Best Buy…daily actually…it’s either Best Buy or Target or Toys R Us or Fry’s…but it’s definitely one of those stores…and at least daily. I don’t know why I go…most of the time I don’t need anything…I just go in and “window shop”. Ok sure…I buy some things once in awhile (all right you got me…a good portion of the time) but I can’t imagine that I need any of those things really (especially with what I buy…right? Games, Movies, TV Shows, Gadgets for my iPod, gadgets for my phone, gadgets for my PC, gadgets for my camera, gadgets for my car…damn…I guess I buy shit almost every time I go there! I’m seriously fucked up).

And there is a pattern. In Best Buy, I do the PS3 aisle, then the Wii aisle, then I go to the “recently released movie” section, then I hit the Horror, Sci Fi, Anime movie sections in that order, circling back to the TV series sections and then maybe browsing through the music area, before I end up gazing at all of the 1080p televisions that they have and dreaming for enough dough to get me one.

At Toys R Us, it’s usually straight to the main section that you hit when you walk into the store (you know, the one that the store is always pushing all of the crap that usually ties in with a big movie release…recently it’s been Star Wars Clone Wars), then I head right to the Star Wars, Transformers, GI Joe aisle, then I go right over to the Games section (as far as I’m concerned there is no other part of that store).

Target…same thing…movies, games, toys…then I kind of wander around aimlessly, just looking at shit…maybe circling back and hitting those previous areas 3 or 4 times…Oh, and Fry’s is roughly the equivalent of going to Disney World. If I go, I’m there all fucking day…no bull shit. I love that place.

And look…let’s be real…I know I’m not the only mother fucker that does this. When I go to these places I can see other guys, mid 30′s, that goofy glazed look on their faces, shambling around the stores, digging through the action figures…playing the demo Rock Band and John Madden for hours…staring and drooling at a specific toy, first looking at the front, then the back, then the front…endlessly.

Maybe it’s an addiction…or worse a disease…something got screwed up with our brains…maybe watching the last Star Wars Clone Wars movie (You know which part I’m talking about. I hate you George Lucas), caused some sort of mass psychosis that has resulted in our brains being rewired and doing stupid shit…or maybe, we were all separated at birth…and there is some sort of creepy underground gigantic vagina monster spitting out eggs that contain my brothers who all just happen to like Star Wars, and games, and cool shit…and the only way that we know about each other is this secretion unknowingly left behind by us when we walk (like ants returning to the colony) that make us go to OUR “food source”, Best Buy…or maybe we are being controlled by some alien race…yeah…they abducted us, probed our bodies, erased our brains…and now they are experimenting on us to see what we can and cannot do…and then when the time is right, they will unleash us on the unsuspecting governments of the world to overthrow them and prepare the world population for the alien invasion! Fuck yeah!

…or maybe…just maybe…we all just need to get laid…

Yeah…that’s probably it. Fuck.

Anyways, back on track, it was sometime at the end of 2007, as I was trolling the PS3 aisles in Best Buy that…I would continue to see this game with, what I thought was at the time, the worst game title I’ve ever seen in my entire life: Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. Honestly it looked ridiculous. A goofy cookie cutter hero, some dumb skull on the front (SOP for every crappy adventure game…usually with a snake slithering through the eye…you know what I’m talking about), your requisite jungle scenery…you know, straight up garbage…it just looked like every other stupid ass adventure game.

So I never bought it…but I kept seeing it… And each time I went into Best Buy, I noticed that what once was an Uncharted section with maybe 15 games, was slowly dwindling down…while the other games around it, “Transformers: The Game” on one side and “Vampire Rain” on the other were not. Hmm…

Then one day, I walked into Best Buy (same thing as waking up taking a shit, brushing your teeth…my daily routine) and headed over to the PS3 aisle (yeah like I always do) and as sure as donkey shit, there was only one Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune left in the row. That was it…my last chance. “What the fuck was happening”, I thought. “Does somebody know something that I don’t? Does EVERYBODY else know something that I don’t??? Could this horribly marketed game actually be something better than what it appeared”

Well, because at the end of the day, I’m still at heart, an opportunist, and I can’t fucking stand when someone else goes “Hey Grumms…what? you haven’t played “such and such game” or “watched such and such movie”….dude you gotta do it…now…you are like the last mother fucker on the planet to “play this game” or “watch this show”…come on…come on…come on…come on”

….yeah so I went ahead and took the plunge and bought the damn game…it was only $60 bucks after all…right? not that much…was it? What the hell else was I gonna spend $60 bucks on anyways?

And you know something, after tossing the game in the PS3, and watching the opening cut scene…and after I started to play it…it actually, believe it or not…was not half bad. Think “modern day Indiana Jones”…with a Han Solo type character talking shit…lot’s of guns…and zombies!…yeah…totally fucking AWESOME! (technically the zombie thing is not true, but still some crazy along those lines shit in the game…you are gonna have to check it out for yourselves)

The graphics were great, the game play was a lot of fun, animations, especially of the main anti hero… Nathan Drake were so fluid and realistic (by far some of the best I had seen in any game), the lighting was incredible, and the story…by the time I had finished, was straight out of a Hollywood action flick (AND it was GOOD). It was one of the better stories in any game, movie, anything, I’ve ever had the enjoyment of experiencing.

Well to my surprise and amazement, as I was looking for porn in the youtube HD section (it’s all over really…do a search for “Hollowman” and Rhona Mitra. Your welcome), I found a video that revealed that none other than Nathan Drake is coming back for a sequel (yes!)…Uncharted: Among Thieves. Pretty bad ass.

Of all the games that are going to be released in 2009, I really cannot wait for this one. I have to admit, it’s probably at the top of my wish list. Check out the teaser trailers below and if you haven’t already, then go and rent the original game and check it out. You will not be disappointed. Oh and if you happen to be in Houston and just happen to see me at Best Buy, I’ll fucking kill you if you come up and say anything to me about anything you read above….

At one time I was a die hard fan of wrestling games,!! never a fan of the show. When I had my Nintendo 64 (yes I am old) I bought every wrestling game they came out with for it. Once I moved onto the PS2 I found this was one genre that was seriously lacking in game controls and graphics. All of the wrestling games I played on PS2 basically sucked, the moves were choppy, the details lacking and the load times eternal. So to say the least I was skeptical about buying this game, especially dropping $60 on it (after all, working at GF doesn’t exactly pay the bills).

After a week of playing this game I can say that I breathed a sigh of relief, the boys over at THQ have come a long way and have redeemed themselves in certain areas. The game play is phenomenaland the create options seem limitless. They have all of the favorite matches for exhibition such as the cage match, TLC and hell in a cell matches. The character details are great as well, if you look real hard you can almost see pubic hair on the divas. All of the wrestlers are there including the old superstars that I remember as a kid, except Cocoa B Ware, sniff. That brings up the point of my post, as good as this is I have already found something to be a nuisance. In any match beyond a standard pin-fall match the diva’s are not selectable as choices.

Now I know what are you thinking, why would I want to use a chic. Well we all have that yearning to throw a steaming ass hot chic through a table now and again or pummel her with a chair and as I shifted through the characters selections I saw a few I was ready take on. However once in the character selection screen after choosing a table match I regrettably noticed that the chic’s were all gone. That’s right, you can only beat up other dudes. So far this is the only drawback of the game but I will be playing the hell out it to see what else I can dig up that sucks. My advice for those that loved the hardcore wrestling games of the 90′s on the 64, get this game, truly a breakthrough for disc load.

In the mean time I will fill my hours playing with the diva’s and pausing the match at just the right moments

PIN ME, FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THATS HOLY PIN ME!!

as they are doing the splits or trying to see their nipples, and staring at this pic of Ashley, ah memories…

Alright guys I want to show my support for the top ten games of 2007 and 2008. Why two years you say, well I feel the need to include both years because they are both good years. Anyways I start my list at the bottom. These are all games I have played and I use my own rating system to determine this.

Just the other day I was perusing through Geek Flavor’s extensive collection of videos that we have acquired over the years (and subsequently inventoried behind the scenes), and I realized that we just might have one the largest collection of videos of Body Builders doing some sort of a robot during their competitive routines on the planet.

And trust me on this, Scorp and I looked at a bunch of these last night and today and outside of wanting to take a hot poker and sticking it right in our eyes (Scorp was talking about wanting to castrate small animals), we realized that only a TRULY BEAST of a GEEK FLAVORIZED FAN could actually start at the #10 top game of 2007/2008 review and video and make it all the way through the #1 game review and video without attempting to burn your own eyes out, rip off your own genitalia, or rip off your friends genitalia while burning his eyes out.

Well, I can’t say that I liked the first one at all, but this time I think they made good on this one. This 3rd person shooter seemed to me an extensively improved version of the first. The coolest thing on there is the horde. This is where you and four other players can play on one of the multiplayer maps and just fight the monsters of the game. With this, the monsters come in waves and there are fifty waves that players have to endure. Every ten waves the monsters get stronger, faster, and more accurate. In addition this games graphics are amazing as are the ones in first game. Anyways, the co-op online is also intriguing because you can always dominate all the baddies of the game. The Game play is a little rocky but hey it can be not so bad once you master them. Multiplayer outside of the horde is as dumb as the first game. The graphics are again kick ass and the co-op rocks. I give this game a 9.0 out of 10.

Not to mention that the game is made for all ages that is why I think this game is cool. It’s not to be played lightly. This game on expert is challenging and can be a little frustrating, but hey what game isn’t on its hardest difficulty. I give this game a 9.5 out of 10.

However, I have played glitchy games like this before and I really loved playing a new Star Wars game PEROIDS!! You really have to be a true star wars fan to understand… However, this game seems to me to be way to hard and frustrating. The idea is cool but DAMN it I can make a pure person into a demon lord. Although playing this game on easy is entertaining enough and can prove to be fun. The coolest thing about this game is its Black Lightsaber and its plot. Most people reading this will probably disagree but what do they know. However, I have no choice to rate this low because of the game play and the glitchyness. I give this game an 8.0 out of 10.

Well it is xbox 360′s 4th year and it has come a long way… Out of all the times I had to send in my console I am still proud to be a Xbox 360 supporter. Today Microsoft released a new xbox experience in which xbox live users can have an heavily upgraded dashboard. Sorry to PS3 but it is being outdone as far as the online features are going. In this dashboard you are able to create an avatar. It also has a feature where users can have video chats with one or more persons. I believe this to be a big day because xbox is making their console better and better since its release in 2005. In addition xbox has made it easier for xbox users to view each others’ profiles as games played. Words cannot describe the rest…this update is badass. I really don’t like to harp on PS3 but I think that Playstation is not the online type of system. But this opinion is subject to change. Playstation really only has one advantage over the 360 and that is Blue-ray. That is the only reason why I own one. I really was disappointed to know that PlayStation’s graphics are par with xbox 360′s and that there is no difference in the games. I would like however to note that I have had loads of fun on both systems, and I hope Playstation gets there act together and grows some balls and try to compete with Xbox…
